Prisoners should share the responsibility of democracy
Should prisoners be allowed to vote? The European Court of Human Rights thinks they should and has required to UK government to address its total ban. Mark Johnson argues that due to issues such as addiction or mental health problems, prisoners may not initially prioritise their voting rights. However he argued that democratic engagement can be encouraged through the Prison Councils he has led.
