Prisoner views of self-inflicted death and self-harming in prison

Prisoners’ opinions on the emotional distress of prison causing self-harm are explored in this User Voice report. The prisoners who participated in focus groups provided feedback on their experiences of suicide and self-harm prevention in prison, including the causes of emotional distress, suicidal ideation and self-harming behaviour, and the type of support and information which is and should be available. User voice conducted research with 31 prisoners in 5 prisons, including an anonymous questionnaire and 6 focus groups.
