“Neuro…what?” Neurodiversity in the criminal justice system

As part of the Joint Inspectorates’ Review of Neurodiversity, we interviewed 118 people with neurodiverse conditions.

The report was called Neurodiversity… What? as:

• 86% hadn’t heard of the term
• 70% had no adjustments
• 66% were not screened
• 76% said the system didn’t understand their needs
• 5% had been on a programme adapted for their needs

As part of the Joint Inspectorates’ Report, this lived experience insight played a central role in the development of the Ministry of Justice ’s Neurodiversity Action Plan.
