“Neuro…what?” Neurodiversity in the criminal justice system
As part of the Joint Inspectorates’ Review of Neurodiversity, we interviewed 118 people with neurodiverse conditions.
The report was called Neurodiversity… What? as:
- 86% hadn’t heard of the term
- 70% had no adjustments
- 66% were not screened
- 76% said the system didn’t understand their needs
- 5% had been on a programme adapted for their needs
As part of the Joint Inspectorates’ Report, this lived experience insight played a central role in the development of the Ministry of Justice ’s Neurodiversity Action Plan.
